The little girl had the making of a poet in her who,
being told to be sure of her meaning before she spoke, said:

"How can I know what I think till I see what I say?"

(William Wallace, The Art of Thought)

Perception of the world changes with age.  It depends on the culture and the era of the time. History gives us perspective from which to consider our own age. Print literature that has been used to educate and entertain children has evolved over a thousand years and changed much in that time. The "This is where we begin" site attached provides a historical overview of children's literature from 1000 until now. The site evolved from my Masters Thesis reseach at Kennesaw Statue University (1999-2001) and is the base of an article published in ACM's inaugural issue of Computers in Entertainment Magazine (2003)
